At the moment
I am in the VIP lounge waiting 2 B united with my host, Pat G, a captain
for one of the US's major international airlines and the PIC for tonight's
5,ooo plus mile journey down south under the equator. Pat also is a Viet
Nam helicopter pilot with about 4,ooo hours under a set of whirling wings
n a proud owner of a lovely R22.
Tonight's journey came about somewhat by accident. Pat n another helicopter pilot/retired airline captain, Hank I met because of Miss Nina, my CH-7 Angel helicopter. They both come over to take a peek at Nina, well one thing lead to another in the conversation n B4 U knew it, I was telling him how the Angel was designed by a men near Buenos Aires n he was telling me how he regularly commands a flight to the same place.
So, that's
it 4 now. If I get on the flight, the plan is 4 us to surprise the designer
of my bird, Augusto Cicare at his fabrica (shop) tomorrow. Pat is a true
hover lover n I am sure he will love seeing Augusto past hand built and
personally designed helicopters. So, if I can get access to my FTP program
from Argentina, I will be up dating this page with some fotos U may find
interesting. If I can not access my server form down south, I should be
loading up the new info sometime this Tuesday night.
Good News n Bad News
Well, by lookin at the foto above, I suspect U can guess I made the flight. Above is Pat the present day hover lover, the X Viet Nan UH1 combat helicopter pilot n present day Boeing 767 driver/Conondantee. Pat is the Captain of tonight's flight to EZE. EZE is the 3 letter airport identifier code 4 the little town of Ezezia Argentina that the large town of Buenos Aires placed their air port near.
Now Oh Dark Thirty Saturday Morning (o518) October the 9th, 1999.

More good news, I only did I make the flight, I was up graded to C
Class. I love to travel, however till now, 99.9% of my treks have been
in the back of the bus. The class C seats on this bus are GREAT.
.
..
..
Only two seats
where normally there are 4, Personal 4X6 inch video screen per seat/passanger,
Active noise canceling head sets An aux. power point 4 U're lap top Lots
of leg room aft n forward of your seat for reclining When U do recline,
a leg/calf supporter pops up which almost makes a bed
The bad news isn't that bad. I had intended to log on at the air port (JFK) and file my frost report, but I forgot the cabal that connects my lap top to the fone. Well looking on the half full side, it saved me a long distance fone call to my server.
A half hour 45 min or so just after take off, up at flight level 31,
Pat, (remember the captain of this flight/the guy that made this trek to
EZE possible), strolls back sits down with me n we have dindin 2gether
along with some good rotor head BS. Now 4 yins that may not know, the Boeing
767 is a 2 pilot bird. The Airline that Pat flies for trains and checks
all 767 International Co-Pilots as FAA rated and licensed Captains. This
allows Pilots to rotate seats and each
can then take a scheduled rest period in the cabin, so Pat comming
back n spending time/dinner w/me is SOP (Standard Operating Procedure)
on long flights in this bird. Actually each of the 3 pilots on tonight's
flight have a third-3 hours scheduled as rest time out of the cock pit
back in a reserved section of the cabin. So, 4 me, a heavy aluminum
pilot want-to-be, it was a true honor to have him come back n spend sometime
with me.
The sun has dawned over the horizon from my 767 window now. On tonight
flight, this 2 pilot 767 has a 3rd relief pilot riding the jump seat so
Pat actually has about 3 hours to rest during the 1o hour journey.
Augusto does not know we are comming (I hope). The plan is to meet Fernando (Agusto Cicare's oldest son) at EZE n drive the 2 hours or so to Saladillo where Augusto lives h has his shop. I am hoping to approach him from the rear, put my arm around his shoulder an just say Hola Amigo.
That is the plan, who knows how it will turn out.
How this trip came about is that Agusto has all his previous creations stored neatly in his hangar. Knowing Pat is a true rotor head for some 3o plus years, I suggested I zoom down with him the next time he bids this run. Well, today (Saturday the 9th of October, 1999) is the day.
Pat's work schedule requires him to rest the remainder of the day. Than tomorrow (Sunday) he takes the 767 that leaves JFK 2night at 2230 (the same flight I am on now, just 24 hours later) and fly it 2 Montevideo Uruguay n back. Than he rests Sunday night and Monday night he fly's Sunday night's aircraft back to JFK arriving around o600 Tuesday (I think).
Well, it is now o600 n I just noticed my battery power is low (I do not have the jack that plugs into the 767's seat), I better boot down, talk at ya later.
