This morning, February the 10th, 1999 a Russian built heavy lift helicopter had just finished delivering an A/C unit to a roof in down town Cape Town South Africa. As the pilot was hovering out he bumped a roof  top billboard with his tail rotor..

Here the big twin engine bird begins his fatal right peddle turn.

This is a telephoto shot, so the distance can fool you, but now the big bird is only inches from catastrophe.

This is just before or just after the moment of contact. The digitizer I use is close to worthless, so it is not only vary difficult to pick the exact frame you want, it takes many many tries. So like I said, this is just before or just after the hit. I giving up trying to capture the exact moment after 6o+ tries.

Un like the Titanic that also lost it's battle with gravity, sinking much more rapidly than thought possible (I think a tad less than 2 hours) the Russians ship begins it last moments as gravity begins to takes over.

From the above foto to the last foto on this page, amazingly, took between 3 n 4 seconds.

Not much needs to be said, the end is near. The Russian helicopter who's rotor system rotates in the opposite direction as all but the French's products begins a slide to it's right. By looking at the video, it seems the main rotor never contacted the billboard, just the TR. I always thought the TR blade would be on the other side of the tail boom having this rotation, Obviously I am wrong. But if  the TR blade would have been on the the other side, it is possible this fatal crash would not have happened.

By this time, the videographer was showing his quick reactions because the helicopter goes out of frame as you can see above, he is obviously heading for cover/safety.

This is the aftermath on a roof top below. Luckily no one on the ground was hurt, but all 4 aboard the craft were killed, hopefully instantly by looks at the flames. Remeber, from the moment of contact with the roof top billboard, it took less than 4 seconds......
