Thought I'd drop SHnPGIE a line and let you know how my project is coming. I've made many changes since the last time I wrote you.  I've changed the mechanical cyclic mix to a hydraulic system to eliminate the slop I was experiencing.
..........
Due to the suggestions of others knowledgeable in the field I removed the two cylinder/two cycle engine and replaced it with an  AiResearch GTP30-67 APU engine.  The turbine offers substantial safety margins over the two stroke. It has automatic speed control and increased horse power.
..........
The big problem is that it's slightly heavier and required the design of right angle speed reduction gear box that pushed the weight of the project way over the legal limit of 254 LBS.  Although I'm disappointed at the weight increase as I'm sure others will be, I feel much safer sitting in front of a reliable turbine than an unproved two stroke.

I've attached several pix's of the modification to date.  I hope that anyone that had their heart set on an ultralight helicopter based on my work, isn't too disappointed, but this is the life of an experimenter.  I now have an ultra heavy ultralight that my wife says, that if it doesn't fly, will
end up in a museum.

Sincerely, Mike Sohnly
