This is a photo of the "spider" located on the underneath side of the main transmission. It connects to the main control rods which are located inside the mast tube. These two control rods extend through the mast and connect to the main rotor head thus providing a method to transmit both pitch and cyclic commands to the rotor system. The spider replaces the traditional swash plate but functions in much the same way.

This photo shows the cyclic control rods connected from the torque tube up to the spider.
